Kushiro Port, where in the past the most prolific catches in the whole of Japan were landed, is not only where the fresh seafood is used to make "katte-don," but is also a popular tourist spot, where souvenirs can be purchased.

Established in 1954, Washo Market has a long history and is often referred to as "Kushiro's kitchen". Every morning at 8 O'clock, the freshly landed marine products are placed on the stalls and the market comes alive with high-spirited shouts.

The market is always busy with locals and overseas tourists alike, attracted not only by the freshest of seafood but also a wide range of original processed marine products and souvenirs.
